THE ALBEZI CASTLE

Castello degli Albezi is the oldest and most imposing building in Borgata Sala. This ancient medieval construction, located next to the parish church of San Giacomo and dating back to the 13th century, is currently used as a private residence. The castle was the home of the powerful Albezi family, who held feudal rights and privileges in the administration of the castellany in the territory of Giaveno on behalf of the abbot of “San Michele della Chiusa”, lord of Giaveno.

Starting from 1219, the Albezi family played an active role in the public life of Giaveno, contributing significantly to the history and development of the region, and maintained this role until the 16th century. Castello degli Albezi therefore represents not only a historical icon but also a symbol of the power and influence that this family exerted over the local community during the Middle Ages and beyond. Castello degli Albezi is today used as private residence.
